Five Months of Falling Van Sales: What’s Going On in the UK LCV Market?
The UK’s light commercial vehicle (LCV) market faced a significant decline in April 2025, with new registrations dropping 14.9% compared to the previous year, marking five months of consecutive declines. The most affected were large vans over 2.5 tonnes, with a 22.9% decrease. In contrast, 4x4s and pick-ups saw growth due to pre-order rushes before tax changes. Battery electric van (BEV) registrations surged by 77.5% but still lag behind the government’s sales mandate. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders calls for faster grid connections and improved energy access. Current forecasts suggest a 4.3% drop in sales for 2025.
