The first modern car from AC is set to be an all-new Cobra with a firmer focus on performance.
British sports car manufacturer AC Cars has unveiled the all-new Cobra GT Roadster, a modern interpretation of the iconic Cobra sports car. The new Cobra is powered by a supercharged 5.0 V8 that produces 654 horsepower and 780 Nm of torque, which is available with either a six-speed manual (oof) or a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Cobra GT Roadster is also equipped with a number of modern features, such as a carbon fiber body, a limited-slip differential, and a Brembo braking system.
The new Cobra GT Roadster is scheduled to go on sale in Spring 2023, and it is expected to start at around £285,000.
About AC Cars
AC Cars is a British sports car manufacturer that was founded in 1904. The company is best known for its, um, Cobra which was originally produced in collaboration with Carroll Shelby in the 1960s. AC Cars has been in operation for over 100 years, and it continues to produce said Cobra – however this new one is a ground-up job.
About the Cobra GT Roadster
The Cobra GT Roadster is the latest model from AC Cars in 50 years. It is a more modern interpretation of the iconic car, and it is powered by a rather juicy 5.0 V8 engine. The Roadster is also equipped with a number of useful features, such as a carbon fiber body, a limited-slip differential, with braking being take care of by Brembo and suspension that has been set up by ‘a professional race team’.
Regarding that big old lump up front, there is also a naturally aspirated V8 that can also be optioned, power is unconfirmed on that at the moment. This new version will be sold alongside the ‘original’ Cobra that is pretty much unchanged from the one sold in the ’60s. However, that one has a choice of engines that include 4 bangers, naturally aspirated and forced induction V8’s plus electric power.
Specifications
As stated, the Cobra is powered by a V8 that produces 654 bhp and 780 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. The GT Roadster will top out at 205 mph and can accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.
The Cobra GT Roadster is equipped with a carbon fiber body, a limited-slip diff and a track-focused Brembo braking system. It also has a number of modern features, such as a 12-speaker audio system, SatNav and a heated steering wheel for those two days in June when you’ll use the car.

Price
The GT Roadster is expected to start at around £285,000, a hefty jump over the standard £130,000 Cobra.
Availability
It is scheduled to go on sale in Spring 2023 and will be built in a new factory in Coventry, England where the factory is expected to create 100 new jobs. However, production will be limited, but it will be available in both left-hand drive and right-hand drive configurations.
