After previously teasing an image of an upcoming hatchback, Alpine have finally released images of the new A290 all-electric car
After releasing some very cagey images of an upcoming hatchback, the sporting arm of Renault has now fully revealed the A290 EV. First impressions are that this may be one of the best looking hatchbacks on the road – if the production car will actually look like this, that is.
We can instantly see the design elements from the classic A110 and the modern one, namely due to those (awesome) spot lights situated on the aggressive styled bumper. The low and wide arches give it a commanding stance on the road.
The rear is very, very Renault 5 – which comes as no surprise, seeing as this will be the quick version of the new all-electric 5. Aside from the vertical brake lights which look amazing, there appears to be some fakery on the exhaust though. Which is weird, because this doesn’t need them. Whilst they are a design choice, it is certainly a strange one.
The interior is equally as impressive as the outside, it’s doubtful that roll cage will make it into the final production version, unless they want to go full Porsche GT2 RS. Speaking of other cars, the McLaren F1 central seating position is as cool as it is impractical. But again, this is just a show car and not the real thing. It is merely an exercise of design, but it will showcase what the final car will look like – just maybe not quite so cool. It is also a way for us to see what the upcoming Renault 5 will look like as well.
The Alpine A290 also has motorsport-inspired seats sat opposite the squared-off steering wheel. Again, there have been no details of what drivetrain it is likely to use, but is likely to be a hotter version of the Zoe drivetrain.
