In a very guarded release, Lexus has revealed that they will be announcing an all-new model, called the LBX, on 5th June.
Just this morning, Lexus have announced that a new model will be joining their lineup in the UK, dubbed the LBX. There are absolutely no details at all about it, but we do know that the full reveal will be on the 5th June of this year.
What we can do is try to decipher the meaning of the naming nomenclature. In Lexus terms, they’re typically two letters. For example, you have LS, which means Luxury Saloon, LX means Luxury Cross (which is basically their SUV range) and then you often have a first letter which determines the size of the car, however this doesn’t really follow anything.
Either way, L typically denotes the largest and most luxurious of the ranges. So it is safe to assume this may be bigger than the current RX we get here in the UK. It could also be a smaller crossover that is positioned below the UX as Toyota did state in 2019 that they wanted a CT-sized entry level crossover, but the UX is already diddy. This would then use the Toyota TNGA-B platform that the Yaris Cross sits on.
We haven’t seen ‘B’ before when it comes to Lexus models, and LB could signify something we have never seen from the brand. My personal guess is that this will be a range-topping Coupé styled SUV, much like the new Genesis GV80 Coupé.
It is unlikely to be a fully electric model, unless it comes in LBX-“e” form. But Lexus has the new RZ, with the Z denoting fully-electric only. It is extremely likely this will only come in hybrid form, with one powertrain option.
However, we will have to wait and see.
