New Bilstein suspension, better off road modes and a ‘flexible rack system’ adorn the new Ford Ranger models

The Ranger is the staple pickup of the UK for all manner of drivers, from farmers, construction workers, council works and those who just want a truck for the sake of it. Now though, Ford has introduced new Wildtrak X and Tremor models to the lineup.

The new models are more off road focused than the standard Ranger counterpart, featuring longer travelling suspension courtesy of Bilstein, various new off road driving modes and what Ford calls the ‘flexible rack system’. Meaning you can now adjust the load bar across the full range of the bed. This is especially useful for those wanting to carry longer items on the roofs of their Ranger’s.

Wildtrak X

We’re also told that both models feature a substantially reworked chassis in conjunction with the new suspension and off road modes to really help Europe’s best selling pickup down a road less travelled. These two trucks will sit under the wonderfully bonkers Ranger Raptor, however, will not feature the same 3.0 V6 petrol.

Instead, it will utilise the 203bhp 2.0 EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel engine hooked up to the 10-speed automatic gearbox feeding all four wheels permanently through a new all-wheel drive system. The Wildtrak X will also have wider stance, underbody protection and increased ground clearance compared to the existing Wildtrak. 26mm ride height increase and 30mm wider track are the figures over the Wildtrak.

Tremor

The Tremor is based on the Ranger XLT, the more commercially focused variant of the Ranger. It carries over the technology upgrades as well as the new permanent all-wheel drive system from the Wildtrak X. The idea is to make it more accessible for business users so that they can take it to a site that is difficult to reach in a conventional van or standard Ranger. The Tremor will also use the same 2.0 diesel, 10-speed drivetrain from the Wildtrak X.

Ford say the ‘unique Boulder Grey exterior details and a darkened grille complete the model’s bold, distinctive appearance.’ Regarding the interior, we’re told the seats and floor are now water-resistant and can easily be cleaned by simply wiping them down. An optional pre-wired overhead switch pack which offers six inputs for winches, LED light bars and other equipment is also on offer.

Both models will be available to preorder in April 2023 with deliveries expected to start from August 2023. No word on pricing just yet but there will be a premium over the standard XLT priced at £31,150 and Wildtrak pricing of £39,350, respectively.
