Electric vehicle technology specialist Electrogenic reveals budget-friendly, plug-and-play EV conversion kit for the classic Mini
If you find that you’re classic Mini is just too noisy and slow, Electrogenic have you covered, with what they’re calling a plug and play kit for your classic. Now I know, some may call it sacrilege and there’s still fierce debate over whether or not classics will need to be converted to electric, but the fact is, EV conversions are surprisingly popular. Companies like these wouldn’t exist if that wasn’t the case.
But anyway, enough of the automotive politics. If you do own a classic Mini and fancied it being electric, now you have the option. Electrogenic is a company based in Oxford that manufacture the vast majority of parts themselves – including PCB’s, dashboards, software and even the vehicle management technology.
The motor that is supplied is a 60bhp, 135Nm water-cooled motor that’s hooked up to a dinky 20kWh battery that should give you around 80 miles of range in town. The company did state that a bigger battery pack is in the works as well that will mount in the boot. Great if you want a longer mini adventure. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about all of this is that it is all pre-wired and quite literally ‘drops in’. Everything mounts to the subframe using existing hardware and the Euro Type 2 charge port is also pre-mounted and can be accessed via a range of bespoke replacement front grilles.

Electrogenic have said that they want to retain the driving characteristics of the petrol powered counterpart and this motor has been specially developed to deliver that same experience in a cleaner and quieter package.
The price for all of this? Just £15K plus the VAT.
