Using a Model S Plaid with 1,020bhp and their Track Package, Tesla has managed a 7m 25s Nurburgring lap, faster than the Porsche Taycan
In an effort to reclaim the lap record for EVs around the infamous ‘Green Hell’ from Porsche, Tesla set about using a Model S Plaid equipped with their Track Package to take the spot. On one of the attempts, the California based company squeezed in a 7:25.231 time around the 12.9m (20.8km) course.
That’s mightily impressive, seeing as it is a whole 8 seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, which itself managed a 7:33.350. To give you some context, that’s about as fast a Lamborghini Aventador – in a four door family saloon.
Anyway, the car. It’s a Model S Plaid, that has a healthy 1,020bhp which drives all four wheels from 3 electric motors. Then it has the Track Package added on which increases the top speed to 200mph (up from 175mph), adds carbon ceramic brakes, stiffer suspension, 20 inch lightweight alloys and a host of software changes.
Those changes include the ability to control the traction controls aggressiveness, its front to rear bias, better torque vectoring, better battery conditioning and more access to full power.

Maybe we’ll see a Tesla Model S Plaid Nurburgring Edition? But it is unlikely we’ll see a right hand drive version anytime soon, or for the foreseeable.
